Truth For Muslims Publishes Voter Guide

Centreville, Virginia, August 26 – Truth For Muslims, an evangelical Christian group, has begun distributing its 2008 Voter Leadership Guide.

“The Guide informs citizens of what our leaders are saying about Islam,” said John Marion, Project Director of Truth For Muslims. He continued, “Islam is one of the greatest challenges we are facing as Christians in America. It’s an ideology that is incompatible both with the United States Constitution and with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And our leaders—both in Washington and in the pulpits—are virtually silent.”

The “voter guide” catalogs a number of issues relating to Islam, such as “Mosques,” “Women,” and “The Preeminence of the Constitution vs. Sharia Law.” It also quotes and analyzes what various political leaders have said about Islam. On the back is a list of “Ten Questions to Ask Your Leaders,” which includes queries like “What is your view on the Islamic ‘law of apostasy’?”

“The crux of this for me,” said Marion, “is the law of apostasy. Islam demands the death penalty for any Muslim who converts to another religion. It’s not always enforced, but in 25 years I’ve never heard any mainstream Muslim tell me this law should be abolished. We’re not talking about the radicals, we’re talking mainliners. How can a ‘religion’ like that coexist with a society that values freedom of religion?”

In an interview with local filmmaker Benjamin Adams, Marion explained that the guide is just one component of a multi-pronged effort to influence how American leaders speak publicly about Islam.

“We don’t have the luxury of crossing our fingers and waiting a hundred years for Islam to be ‘reformed’ or ‘modernized,’ if that’s even possible. We must confront it now, in our generation.”

In a recent letter to supporters, Marion wrote, “To change the political climate, we need to change the cultural outlook on the issue.”

Marion explains, “We want to help create an environment where our leaders are equipped and encouraged to speak freely about the dangers of Islam as an ideology, absent ‘politically correct’ speech. The stakes are too high to do otherwise.”

The online version of the Voter Leadership Guide is available in PDF format for free download at www.truthformuslims.com. The printed version will be sent to the Truth For Muslims mailing list early next week.

Truth For Muslims, created in 2004, focuses on what it describes as “a comprehensive, biblical response to Islam in America.” In addition to confronting Islam in the public forum, the ministry trains Christians in apologetics and Muslim evangelism.
